Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball suffered its third consecutive straight-set loss, falling to UC Riverside (15-25, 12-25, 18-25) on Saturday night. The loss closed out a 16-match road stretch for the Titans, who move to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in Big West play.Â
The Titans opened the match with a solo block from
Lira Pukl Verdel, followed by a
Hannah Hass kill that ended a long rally for an early 2-0 lead over UC Riverside. The Highlanders battled from behind to tie the set at 9-9 before Riverside pulled away with a 22-14 advantage and closed the set with a 25-15 victory.Â
Fullerton leaned on
Sarah Schubert and
Zariah Crosby to spark their second-set efforts. Schubert closed UC Riverside's 9-6 lead to 9-8 on a kill and block assist with Zariah, but UC Riverside answered with a 8-0 run for a 17-8 lead. Schubert and Crosby shut down UC Riverside's run with a kill each to respond with four unanswered points and trail 17-12. However, the Highlanders won the final eight points of the set to take a 2-0 lead over the Titans on a 25-12 set win.Â
UC Riverside carried their momentum into the third set, scoring first on a Titan error. Fullerton traded points early behind kills from
Elon Smith, Hass and Pukl Verdel to tie the score at 3, 4 and 5.
Ketesia Hall and Pukl Verdel added two kills each to pull the Titans within 14-11, but the Highlanders kept control and sealed the match with a 25-18 victory.Â
Fullerton returns to Titan Gym for its "Pack the House" home opener against CSUN on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m., followed by a matchup with Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.Â
