Men's Soccer Secures Three Points on the Road with Win Over Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton earned three points on the road with a 2-1 win over Sacramento State Saturday afternoon at Hornet Field. With the win the Titans improve to 4-4-4 on the year and 1-1-0 in Big West play. 

The Titans struck early as Fernando Valenzuela scored in the 4th minute of action to take a 1-0 lead. Valenzuela leads the team with four goals and nine points this season. Freshman Alex Lugo assisted on the goal. 

Fullerton added to its lead in the 20th minute on a goal by Jose de la Torre who shot from just outside the 18-yard box and got a deflection that redirected the ball into the back of the net. De la Torre now has two goals and seven points this season. 

While the Titans continued to look to add to the lead, the main focus was shutting down Sacramento State and the defense did just that. Fullerton allowed just 10 shots and only five on goal. The shutout was broken in the 87th minute but it was too little too late for the Hornets. 

The Titans are back on the road Wednesday night for a Big West showdown at Cal Poly. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
