Titans Extend Winning Streak to 10

The Cal State Fullerton Titans extended their winning streak to 10 on Friday with wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Redlands.

CLAREMONT, Calif.– The Cal State Fullerton Men's Water Polo team nabbed two wins on Friday in the first day of the Gary Troyer Tournament. The Titans kicked off the tournament with a 21-11 win over Mount St. Mary's and followed up with a 17-12 victory over Redlands.

Julian Nichols and Francisco Paredes led the Titans with a combined eight goals against the Mountaineers. Nico D'Angelo, Jacob Hatch and Andrew Barnuevo also recorded a multi-goal game, each netting two.
 
The Titans outscored the Mountaineers in each frame, leading to the big 21-11 win. Nichols fired two past the keeper in the first quarter while Barnuevo and Francesco Schiaffino tallied on, giving CSF a 4-3 lead after one.
 
Nichols started off the second quarter by claiming a hat trick. Tied at five each, Ethan MacLeod dented the twine putting the Titans on top. Parades, Hatch, D'Angelo and Ethan Merritt closed out the first half with four unanswered goals, giving Fullerton a 10-6 lead.
 
Barnuevo and D'Angelo netted back-to-back goals, followed by Nichols recording his fourth goal of the game to start the third quarter. Luke Vargas, Samuel Branco, and Paredes scored a few insurance runs, sending the game into the final frame with a score of 16-9.
 
Paredes found the back of the net twice while Hatch, Jace Peterson, and Ryan O'Donovan also scored to give the Titans their ninth consecutive win.
 
Togan Ozbek led the Titans with four assists and one drawn exclusion. Ethan Ivey got the start in the net and logged five saves.
 
Titans 17, Redlands 12
In a close matchup in all four quarters, the Titans came out on top, taking down the Redlands Bulldogs in a 17-12 game.
 
Redlands found their way onto the board first scoring two in the first three minutes, but quickly after, Nichols fired one in to put the Titans on the board. MacLeod, Hatch and Nicols logged three more to give the Titans a 4-2 lead going into the second quarter.
 
Barnuevo and D'Angelo opened up the second with two goals. Nichols logged a pair, contributing to his eight-goal day. Bende Aubeli also recorded a goal to put the Titans up 9-4 at the half.
 
MacLeod nabbed a hat trick in the third quarter as he tacked onto the Titans lead. Barnuevo, Merritt and Vargas also tallied on.
 
The Bulldogs opened up the fourth quarter with three straight goals, but it was not enough to stop Tony Benedetti and O'Donovan from sealing the Titans 17-12 win on Friday evening.
 
Nichols and MacLeod led Fullerton with four goals each while Barnuevo logged two. Ethan Ivey tallied onto his saves this season, recording seven more on Friday, October 3, 2025
 
The Titans are back in action Saturday at 11:30 a.m. vs Wagner and 3:15 p.m. vs Cal Baptist to close out the Gary Troyer Tournament.
