Titans Dominate McKendree in 21-8 Victory

Carmelo Bangs leads the Titans with four goals, Ethan Ivey records 11 saves in eighth-straight win

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's water polo (12-7) extended their win streak to eight games in a 21-8 victory over McKendree on Wednesday night. The Titans scored 21 goals, led by Carmelo Bangs who netted a team-high four goals and one assist. 

The Titans and Bearcats traded goals early in the first quarter before Fullerton closed the period with a 4-3 lead. Marton Thuroczy and Ethan Cooney added goals before a goal by Andrew Barneuvo broke the tie with 15 seconds left on the clock. 

Fullerton broke away with the lead in the second set, recording a match-high seven goals. Nico D'Angelo scored twice, Barnuevo added his second goal of the night, and Luke Vargas dented the twine for an 8-3 advantage. McKendree battled to keep the game within reach, 9-5, but Jacob Hatch scored on a power play before Francesco Schiaffino scored at four seconds to extend Fullerton's lead to 11-5 at the half. 
 

Threes were wild in the third frame as Bangs netted three straight goals in a three-minute period, stretching the Titans lead to 13-6. 
 

Jace Peterson and Samuel Branco added goals, including a penalty shot from Branco with less than 45 seconds left on the clock. Barnuevo beat the buzzer to close out the third quarter with his third goal of the game, putting Fullerton in control at 17-7. 
 

Ryan O'Donovan opened the final quarter with a one-man advantage goal. The Titans sealed their eighth-straight win with three more goals by Tony Benedetti, Jace Peterson and O'Donovan. 

Ethan Ivey started in goal for the Titans, saving 11 shots in three quarters of play. Noah Stark closed out the match in goal for the Titans, allowing one goal before the Titans secured a 21-8 victory over McKendree.
