Titans Sweep Day at Beach Invite

LONG BEACH, CALIF. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team completed an undefeated weekend on Saturday at the Beach Invite after taking down Concordia University Irvine 9-7 in their first game and Biola University 10-8 in their last game of the weekend. 

Destiny Hernandez had a monster day in the pool at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center, scoring seven goals total for the day.

The Titans held on for the 9-7 win over the Golden Eagles in their first game of the day. The Titans led 8-1 after three quarters before CUI outscored the Titans 6-1 during the final frame of the game.

Destiny Hernandez led the offense with three goals.  Neida Torres and Elise Bliss both scored braces.  Lacey Hall and Isabella Schultz each had a goal a piece in the effort.  Annabelle Sherman came up big with 11 saves in the cage.

Lacey Hall scored the only goal of the first quarter to give the Titans an early 1-0 lead.

The Titans outscored the Golden Eagles 3-to-1 in the second quarter. Neida Torres, Elise Bliss, and Isabella Schultz each scored during the period.  The Titans led 4-1 at the halftime break.

Destiny Hernandez scored a hat trick in two minutes and 5 seconds to start the third quarter to give the Titans a 7-1 lead.  The Titans added one more goal at the end of the period. Neida Torres scored on a power play to give the Titans an 8-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles scored six of their seven goals in the final quarter.  Elise Bliss scored her second goal of the game in the fourth quarter.

CAL STATE FULLERTON 10, BIOLA 8
The Titans pulled out a late 10-8 win over a pesky Biola side in their final game of the weekend. 

Both sides were knotted up at 6-6 to with 7:00 left in the game before the Titans went on a 4-2 scoring run to finish the game and secure the victory.

Destiny Hernandez led the Titans with four goals and one assist.  Delaney Latham, Taylor Mason, Neida Torres, Mia Solorzano, and Ileina Hatori scored a goal a piece. Hannah Wilson racked up three assists.  Annabelle Sherman made 10 saves in the cage. 

The Titans scored the first two goals of the game behind Hernandez and Hatori before the Eagles found two goals to make it a 2-2 game after one.

The Eagles took the lead in the second and held it for most of the period before Delaney Latham scored with 30 seconds left in the quarter to make it a 3-3 game at halftime.

The Titans scored three times to start the third quarter behind a powerplay goal from Torres and a brace from Hernandez.  Biola got some momentum after scoring twice to make it a 6-5 game before the third period ended.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles found an equalizer at 6-6 with 7:00 minutes left.  

The Titans got three goals from Eden Tal, Taylor Mason, and Mia Solarzano to take a 9-6 lead with 2:12 left in the game.  The Eagles scored to keep it a two goal game at 1:38 before the Titans restored the three goal advantage behind Destiny Hernandez's fourth goal of the game with 1:09 left.  The Eagles scored one more time with :42 seconds left but the Titans were able to see out the victory over Biola.

The Titans are off next weekend and will return to action the following weekend at the Triton Invitational.  This is the first time the Titans will take part in this tournament hosted by UC San Diego.
