HONOLULU – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in three straight sets (17-25, 13-25, 15-25) to the University of Hawai'i on Saturday night. This marked the third time the Titans have been swept this season, while standing 4-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.Â
The Titans posted 23 kills compared to Hawai'i's 46, with
Bianca Martinez (7 K) leading the team.
Mya Tillman led the Titans with 12 assists while
Ashley Chacon recorded 11 digs. As a team, the Titans recorded a .021 hitting percentage with 21 attacking errors, five service errors and four blocking errors.Â
Ryleigh Garis awarded the Titans their first lead (11-10) of the match, recording her team-leading 12th service ace of the season.Â
The Rainbow Wahine responded and retook the lead, maintaining the momentum for the remainder of the set. Five attacking errors and two service aces cost the Titans the set, 25-17.
Lyla Traylor and
Bianca Martinez collected two kills each, contributing four of the seven Fullerton kills in the first set.Â
Kylie Griffin made her season debut, recording her first kill of the season in the second set as the Titans trailed 12-8. Griffin added her second kill to the board to bring Fullerton's deficit within five points, 15-10. The Rainbow Wahine went on three different 3-0 scoring runs before taking the final point of the second set for a 25-13 win over the Titans.Â
The Titans tied the match three times but were not able to surpass the Rainbow Wahine in all three attempts. Fullerton recorded most of their 23 kills (9) in the third set, staying alive on two kills by
Lyla Traylor and
Nia Cummings, but ultimately fell to Hawai'i, 25-15.Â
The Titans return to Titan Gym on Friday to continue Big West play against Cal State Bakersfield at 6:00 p.m. before hosting CSUN on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.Â
