Titans Drop Match to Cal State Bakersfield, 3-1

Lyla Traylor led Titans with 9 kills, 14 digs

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell to Cal State Bakersfield in four sets (25-22, 16-25, 13-25, 21-25) in a conference match-up. The Titans record is now 4-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

The Titans trailed 2-0 early in the first set after Ryleigh Garis got the scoring going for the Titans. The game was tied at 5-5 after a Laura Williams kill. The Roadrunners would tie the set at a score of 17-17. Lyla Traylor would give the Titans a 18-17 lead with a kill assisted by Mya Tillman. Tillman would pad the Titans lead with a block and kill for two points in a row. The Titans would go onto win the set 25-22 finished off by a Traylor kill, she finished with a team leading four in the set.

The second set started off with a hot start from the Roadrunners. After a 5-1 deficit, Lolo Fonua cut the lead to 5-2 after getting a kill. Nia Cummings breaks a Bakersfield run with a kill to bring the Titans deficit to nine. Bianca Martinez gave the Titans a burst with a block and started a 5-0 Titans run to tighten up the score 16-11. The Titans would fall in the second set by a score of 16-25.

The Titans took the first lead in the third set with a Fonua block. Traylor would tie the set at seven a piece with a kill, her seventh of the game. The Roadrunners would go on to score five of the next six points taking a 12-8 lead. Garis helped set up Fonua for a point to cut Bakersfield's lead to eight. The Titans would drop the third set by a score of 25-13 bringing the set score to a 2-1 match lead by Bakersfield. 

After scoring the first two Titan points, Martinez tied the score at 2-2. Cummings brought her kill total to eight with a point to bring the Titan deficit to one. Traylor recorded a block and stopped the Bakersfield run. Despite posting 10 kills in the fourth set, the Titans could not force a deciding set, and dropped their ninth match of the season.

The Titans return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4:00 p.m. to host CSUN in their fourth conference match of the season.
