Titans Finish Nonconference Play with Win at UNLV

LAS VEGAS – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer went on the road and defeated UNLV by a final score of 4-2 Thursday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.Ā

With the win the Titans extend their unbeaten streak to seven consecutive games dating back to Sept. 1. During the seven-game unbeaten streak, Fullerton has outscored its opponents by a combined score of 19-8.Ā

Fullerton wraps up the nonconference slate with a 4-3-3 record which included road victories over at the time No. 6 UCLA and No. 15 San Diego.Ā

The Titans fell behind to the Rebels early in the match, giving up the opening goal in the eighth minute of action. As they have all season, the Titans battled back. During the seven-game unbeaten streak, Fullerton has given up the opening goal four times before fighting back to win or earn a draw.Ā

Roberto Ordonez got the Titans on the board in the 17th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Jonathan Grado assisted on the goal for his third of the season.Ā

Fullerton dominated possession and stayed on the attack for much of the first half, leading to Ordonez's second goal of the match in the 30th minute to put the Titans up 2-1.Ā

Ordonez leads the team and Big West with 19 points this season on a team-high six goals and seven assists. His seven assists leads The Big West and ranks second in the nation while his six goals ranks second in the conference.Ā

The Titans went into the locker room at halftime with a 2-1 lead and stepped back on the pitch with their foot still on the pedal. Fitz Williams scored a beautiful goal in the 54th minute on a left-footed curling ball to the far side of the net to extend Fullerton's lead to 3-1.

In the 63rd minute, Sulaiman Bah scored on a great counterattack which he finished with a defender on his back to put Fullerton up 4-1. Erick Serrano and Williams assisted on the goal.Ā

Serrano assisted on two goals in Thursday's match. The senior is second on the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists.Ā

UNLV cut the Titans lead to 4-2 in the 74th minute on a penalty kick. Fullerton quickly put its foot down and didn't allow the Rebels any more momentum to get back in the match.Ā

The Titans turn their attention to Big West Conference play which begins Wednesday Oct. 2 at UC Irvine. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
