Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Opens Big West Play with 2-0 Victory at UCI

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer opened Big West play with a 2-0 win at UC Irvine Wednesday night. With the win the Titans are now 5-3-3 on the year and 1-0-0 in conference play.

The Titans extended their unbeaten streak to eight games while improving their winning streak to three games. Fullerton has outscored its opponents 21-8 during its eight-game unbeaten streak.

The two teams played relatively even in the first half with Fullerton recording five shots and UC Irvine recording two. Each team had just one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of action.

Fullerton flipped the script in the second half, immediately taking control of the game. Fitz Williams was subbed on at halftime and scored one minute in off a left-footed shot to the far post. Williams has scored in back-to-back games for the Titans and has surpassed his scoring total from last season with five points.

The Titans kept the pressure on the Anteaters and broke through for their second goal of the game in the 58th minute on a goal from Jose de la Torre. The freshman also assisted on Williams' goal to give him three points in the game.

Matthias Heiland had a great game in the midfield for Fullerton, assisting on both goals while only playing 27 minutes. Heiland has been a welcomed addition after missing the first five games of the season.

The Titans look to carry their momentum into Saturday's Big West home opener as they face CSU Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m.
