SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer went on the road and handed No. 15 San Diego its first loss of the season, defeating the Toreros 2-0 Sunday night at Torero Stadium.
With the win, the Titans improve to 3-3-3 on the year. Fullerton has secured two road victories over ranked opponents this season in No. 15 San Diego and No. 6 UCLA on Sept. 5. The Titans also extend their unbeaten streak to six games dating back to their Sept. 1 win against Utah Tech.
After a scoreless first half Fullerton broke through 19 minutes into the second half on a goal from Jalen Belong for his first of the season. Jonathan Grado sent a great ball into the box from the Titans own half of the field that Julian Varela was able to win from a San Diego defender before a great centering ball to Belong that led to the goal.
Fullerton all but put the game away in the 79th minute on a great connection from Roberto Ordonez and Erick Serrano. Serrano recorded his fourth goal of the season while extending the Titans lead to 2-0. Ordonez assisted on his seventh goal this season. The senior leads the team with 15 points on four goals and seven assists.
The Titans wrap-up nonconference play Thursday as the team heads to Las Vegas to take on UNLV. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. PT.
