FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in four sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22) to Louisiana Tech at their season opener on Friday night. The Titans open the 2024 season with a 0-1 record after defeating the Bulldogs in their first set of the season.Â

Ameena Campbell produced a match-high 18 kills while adding five digs.
Lyla Traylor (11) and
Lolo Fonua (10) also produced double digit kills, while
Ashley Chacon led the team with 19 digs.
Ryleigh Garis garnered 43 assists across the four matches.Â
The Titans remained ahead of LA Tech for the entirety of the first after taking a 1-0 lead on a kill from
Lolo Fonua. Fullerton went on a season-high seven-point run to lead 8-1 after the Bulldogs tied the game at 1-1. Campbell snagged the inside of the line on a kill, sending the Titans to a 20-17 lead. They went back and forth with the Bulldogs before securing the first set win (25-22) on a service error.Â

LA Tech, who fell to San Jose State in straight sets Friday afternoon, opened the second set with a 2-0 lead. Fullerton matched their pace, evening the score at 2-2 with back-to-back kills by Campbell. This tie was one of 29 tied scores throughout the four sets. The bulldogs found the next five points on three kills and two attacking errors by the Titans for a 7-2 lead. The Titans brought the game within one, 24-23, before surrendering the second set on an attacking error by Traylor.Â
With the match tied at 1-1, the Titans found themselves leading the Bulldogs 21-16 in the third set after going on a run with four kills and a block by
Bianca Martinez and Garis. The Bulldogs responded with a five-point run as well, tying the game at 21-21. Campbell retook the lead for the Titans, earning her 14th kill of the season. LA Tech scored the next four to take a 2-1 match lead.

The relay for the lead continued in the fourth set as the teams seesawed to an 18-18 tied game. LA Tech extended their lead to 21-18 before the Titans tied the game at 21-21 on a Martinez kill assisted by Garis. The Bulldogs took four of the last five points from the Titans, securing a 3-1 match win over Fullerton on opening day.Â
The Titans return to the court on Saturday to close out the Fullerton Invitational against LA Tech and San Jose State. First serve against the Bulldogs is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. They are set to face the Spartans starting at 1:00 p.m.Â
