BERKELEY, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team were defeated 1-0 on the road on Thursday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
The Titans fell to 2-2 overall for the season and 0-2 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
"It was a bit of a heartbreak today. I thought our women played extremely well and deserved a little bit more out of the match. Cal is a great program and there's a lot to learn from it. Our focus will remain on our performance in the final third and we are looking forward to another opportunity against Pittsburgh," said Head Coach
Demian Brown. Â
The Golden Bears scored the only goal of the game in the 80 minute after Alex Klos scored on a loose ball at the top of the box that the Titans weren't able to defend. Â Her shot sailed into the left side of Ranson's net for the only goal of the game.
For the game the Titans were outshot 17-to-6 for the game with Cal having 10 shots on goal to the Titans 3 shots on goal. Â Ranson was stellar in net making 9 saves for the game.
The Titans defense dealt with the Cal offense for almost the entire game but one defensive breakdown was the difference.
Kaylee Noble,
Makenna McGill, and Sasha Amezcuz each had a shot on goal for the Titans. However, the Titans offense wasn't able to connect much in the final third of the pitch with lots of Titans possession opportunities being squandered.
The Titans will head home to Titan Stadium on Sunday for the their straight match against an ACC opponent when they welcome in the University of Pittsburgh at 2 pm. This will be the first matchup between the Panthers and Titans. It's a scheduled double-header with men's soccer who will have their home opener at 5 PM against Utah Tech.
