HUNTINGTON, W.V. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer dropped its season opener at No. 8 Marshall by a final score of 3-0 Thursday evening at Hoops Family Field.Â
The Titans looked to counter-attack the No. 8 team in the country early and often. Fullerton earned a corner kick and got two shots on goal from around the 18-yard box in the first 15 minutes of play.Â
The game changed in the 16th minute of action as Fernando Valenzuela was given a red card for denying a scoring chance inside the 18-yard box. Marshall, however, missed the penalty kick to keep the game scoreless.Â
Fullerton's defense stood strong for much of the first half while being down a man before Marshall took a 1-0 advantage in the 38th.Â
Marshall extended its lead to 2-0 in the 63rd minute in the second half before taking a 3-0 lead in the 69th minute of play.Â
The Titans look to bounce back Sunday afternoon as the team heads to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Xavier. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. PT.
