Fullerton Loses at LMU in Final Midweek Game

LOS ANGELES – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped its final midweek game of the season, losing to LMU Tuesday night at Page Stadium by a final score of 9-7. With the loss the Titans are now 14-31 on the year.

The Titans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run over the blue monster in left field by Maddox Latta. The junior has four home runs this season.

Chad Gurnea started the game for the Titans and pitched one shutout inning while walking one and striking out one batter. Gurnea walked the leadoff batter before getting the next three batters out to end the inning.

LMU came back to take the lead in the home half of the second with four runs on three hits. The Lions extended their lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Brendan Bobo

Fullerton cut into LMU's lead with one run in the sixth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Max Ortega to score Jakob Schardt. The Titans were unable to capitalize more in the inning after having the bases loaded with no outs.

LMU responded with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-3.

The Titans countered with a three-run seventh inning to cut the deficit to 9-6. Lopez got the Titans on the board with an RBI single to score Waldie Perez.

Nico Regino then brought home Schardt and Lopez on a single through the right side of the infield.

Following a leadoff triple by Frank Estrada in the eighth inning, Colby Wallace hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to cut the Titans deficit to 9-7

The Titans are back at Goodwin Field this weekend for a three-game Big West Conference series against UC Davis beginning Friday night.
