ANAHEIM, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball defeated UCLA, 2-1, Friday at Angel Stadium in the 12th inning behind Colby Wallace's two-run home run. With the win the Titans improve to 14-28 on the year.Â
The two teams were scoreless through 11.2 innings when Wallace crushed a two-run home run over the wall in right field to give Fullerton a 2-0 lead. Wallace went 2-for-3 at The Big A with one run, two RBI and two walks.Â
UCLA came back to score one run in the bottom of the 12th inning to cut the Titans lead to 2-1. Moises Guzman made a great play in center field, throwing out the tying run at third base to get the second out of the inning and stop the Bruins momentum.Â
Seth Tomczak had a gutsy performance on the mound for the Titans. The righty pitched the final 4.2 innings (career-high) and gave up just four hits and one unearned run. Tomczak earned the win to improve to 2-2 on the year.Â
The play of the game turned out to be a perfect relay by the Fullerton defense in the fourth inning to keep the game scoreless. Jakob Schardt dug the ball out of the left field corner before making an on-target throw to Maddox Latta who threw the Bruin runner out at home plate.Â
Mikiah Negrete was back in his typical form Friday night, tossing six shutout innings. Negrete gave up five hits and walked two batters while striking out six in his 12th start of the season.Â
Game two of the series against UCLA moves to Goodwin Field Saturday with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. PT. Prior to the game the program will honor the 45th anniversary of the 1979 National Championship team.
