SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball fell to UC Santa Barbara Saturday night at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium by a final score of 5-1. The Titans drop to 13-27 and 5-15 in Big West play with the loss.Â
Fullerton came out looking to even the series at a game apiece and took an early 1-0 lead, scoring one run in the first inning on an RBI single by Nico Regino to score Eli Lopez. Regino had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.Â
Christian Rodriguez and the Titans shutout the Gauchos through the first three innings before a solo home run in the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1. UC Santa Barbara took the lead in the fifth on a three-run home run to go up 4-1.Â
Rodriguez allowed four runs on four hits while walking four and striking out one his start. The redshirt junior drops to 2-5 on the year after drawing the loss.Â
The Gauchos added one more run in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead which they would hold onto for the remainder of the game.Â
Andrew Morones pitched 2.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits while striking out three batters. Jason Krakoski pitched one shutout inning in relief for the Titans.Â
Fullerton looks to avoid the series sweep Sunday afternoon in the third and final game. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
