SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped the series opener to UC Santa Barbara Friday evening by a final score of 13-2 at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The Titans are now 13-26 on the year and 5-14 in Big West play.Â
Mikiah Negrete fell to 4-3 on the year after giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings pitched.Â
UC Santa Barbara jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Gauchos went onto score runs in every inning except the third and the fourth.Â
Fullerton got on the board in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Jakob Schardt, driving in Moises Guzman from second base. Schardt went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI.Â
The Titans added one more run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Matthew Bardowell to score Nico Regino.Â
Fullerton looks to respond in game two of the series Saturday night. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
