Baseball Drops Final Home Midweek Game to USC

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped its final home midweek game of the season to USC by a final score of 6-4 Tuesday night Goodwin Field. The Titans are now 13-25 on the year.

The Titans fell behind in the first inning on a solo home run by Austin Overn. Fullerton quickly responded with one run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1 on a throwing error by USC. 

USC retook the lead in the top half of the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead. 

Fullerton once again responded in the home half of the inning, this time on an RBI single by Jakob Schardt to score Moises Guzman from second base and cut the deficit to 4-2. 

The Trojans extended their lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Overn. The Titans got one run back in the home half of the fourth as Tyler Holley scored on a wild pitch. 

Matthew Bardowell cut the Trojans lead to 6-4 in the eighth inning on an RBI single up the middle to bring home Schardt. Fullerton then loaded the bases with one out trailing by two runs but a double play ended the inning. 

Payton Hawkinson got the start for the Titans and pitched two innings while giving up one run on three hits. Jason Blood, Andrew Morones and Jason Krakoski all had strong outings in relief for the Titans as they shutout USC over the final five innings. 

Fullerton is back to Big West play this weekend as the team heads to Santa Barbara for a three-game series against the Gauchos.
