FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball dropped game three to CSUN, 7-5, in 12 innings Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field. The Titans are now 13-24 on the year and 5-13 in Big West play.Â
CSUN struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning on a bases-clearing double by Jakob Simons.Â
Fullerton responded in the home half of the third on an RBI single by Eli Lopez through the middle of the infield to score Frank Estrada.
The Titans scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3. With the bases loaded Matthew Bardowell drew a walk to drive in Nico Regino. Colby Wallace then grounded out at first base but gave Moises Guzman enough time to score. Guzman made a great move at the plate to avoid the tag.Â
The two teams then went scoreless over the next seven innings to send the game into extras. After two scoreless frames in extras, CSUN broke the game open with four runs in the 12th to take a 7-3 lead.Â
Fullerton didn't go quietly, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 12th on a two-run double by Max Ortega to score Regino and Maddox Latta.Â
Derek Turner got the start for the Titans and gave up three runs on four hits in four innings pitched while striking out four batters. Jason Blood and Seth Tomczak were key in relief for the Titans, each pitching three shutout innings.Â
Fullerton is back in action at Goodwin Field Tuesday night against USC. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
