SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans concluded their pre-conference tournament schedule by splitting the second day at the Aztec Invitational with a 7-6 sudden death overtime win over La Salle and a 12-4 loss against No. 13 Indiana.
The Titans will begin Big West Conference play next Saturday at Long Beach State.
Cal State Fullerton 7, La Salle 6 (SUDDEN DEATH OT)
Destiny Hernandez once again provided the heroics after scoring for the Titans in sudden death overtime in the 7-6 win over the La Salle Explorers.
The Titans got hat-tricks from Hernandez,
Shyanne Rainey, and a goal from
Taylor Mason. Â
Annabelle Sherman was immense in the cage for the Titans with 20 saves.
It was a defensive battle for both sides in the first half as
Taylor Mason scored the only goal for the Titans in the 1st quarter. Â
The Titans and Explorers were tied 1-1 after the first two quarters. La Salle went ahead 3-1 over the Titans in the third quarter. Â However, the Titans got two quick goals from
Destiny Hernandez within 40 seconds to tie the game up at 3-3.
Shyanne Rainey scored just before the third quarter buzzer to give the Titans a 4-3 lead after three quarters.
La Salle scored the first two goals of the fourth period to take a 5-4 lead. Â
Shyanne Rainey found an equalizer for the Titans with 1:42 left to make it a 5-5 game.
In the second period of overtime,
Shyanne Rainey scored a goal to put the Titans up 6-5. Â
However, the Explorers scored on the ensuing possession to make it a 6-6 game after the first two periods of overtime. In the sudden death overtime,
Kieran Scout Bates got a steal in the Explorers side of the pool and was able to draw an exclusion. Â It eventually led to the second game-winning goal for Hernandez in consecutive days as her shot was rifled inside the near post to give the Titans the 7-6 win over La Salle.
Cal State Fullerton 4, No. 13 Indiana
The Cal State Fullerton Titans concluded the Aztec Invitational with a 12-4 loss against No. 13 Indiana. Â This was the second meeting for the Titans with the Hoosiers after previously losing to them 15-5 at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
Annabelle Sherman played the first two quarters and made three saves. Â
Haden Skye Bates played the final two quarters and made five saves.
The Titans trailed 3-1 after the first quarter.  The  Titans got a goal from
Taylor Mason in the period after she converted on a 5-meter penalty.
The Titans scored the first goal in the second quarter. Â
Shyanne Rainey got a steal and passed the ball to
Faith Cuevas who had an open net to make it a 3-2 game.
The Hoosiers then got four unanswered goals and led 7-2 at the halftime break.
The Hoosiers scored twice in the third quarter and led 10-2 after three quarters. Indiana would score two more goals to open the fourth quarter before the Titans scored the final two goals behind
Lacey Hall and
Shyanne Rainey.
