Titans Swept by Cal Poly in Doubleheader

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball lost both games of the doubleheader to Cal Poly Friday evening at Goodwin Field to drop the weekend series. With the two losses the Titans fall to 9-17 on the year and 2-7 in conference play.

Game One, 5-2

Fullerton jumped out to an early lead in the first game on a solo home run by Waldie Perez. The junior catcher has two home runs on the season, hitting both in the last three games.

Cal Poly answered with a three-run third inning to take the lead. The Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-1.

The Titans came back to score one run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Alijah Ramos to drive in Eli Lopez but it was too little too late.

Christian Rodriguez got the start in game one and allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Rodriguez left the game after being looked at by the medical staff.

Peyton Jones gave the Titans a long outing in relief to keep the team within striking distance. Jones pitched 4.1 shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out a season-high five batters.

Game two, 6-0

Cal Poly scored two runs in the third inning, two runs in the fifth inning, one in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Fullerton was no-hit in the game until Max Ortega singled up the middle of the defense as the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning.

Derek Turner got the start for Fullerton and drew the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year. Turner allowed two earned runs on three hits in 2.2 innings pitched. The freshman walked one batter while striking out three.

The Titans look to bounce back next weekend as the team hits the road to face Cal State Bakersfield in a three-game conference series beginning Friday night.
