Titans Fall Short in Extra Innings at No. 11 East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball came up short in a pitchers duel against No. 11 East Carolina Saturday evening, losing by a final score of 2-1 in the 11th inning. The Titans are now 4-5 on the year.

The Titans struck first in front of the hostile crowd at Clark-LeClair Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Marcos Rosales. The freshman now has two home runs on the year.

Mikiah Negrete had his best start as a Titan, allowing just one unearned run on five hits in 6.2 innings pitched while walking two batters and striking out four.

East Carolina came back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single to right field. A fielding error by the Titans earlier in the inning allowed the runner to get into scoring position.

Jason Blood came on in relief following the run in the seventh inning with a runner at second, two outs and an energized crowd looking to capture the lead. Blood quickly got the third out to quiet the crowd and get the Titans out of the inning. Blood allowed just one hit in one inning of relief while striking out one batter.

Seth Tomczak had another strong showing on the mound for the Titans. Tomczak pitched 2.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits and walking two batters while striking out one.

The two sides exchanged blows in extra innings before a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning gave East Carolina the walk-off victory.

The Titans look to respond in the third and final game of the Keith LeClair Classic Sunday morning against Purdue. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 a.m. PT.
