FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball dropped its midweek contest against San Diego by a final score of 7-2 Tuesday night at Goodwin Field. With the loss the Titans drop to 8-11 on the year.
The Titans trailed in the game from start to finish as San Diego scored one run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead.
San Diego extended its lead to 4-0 in the top half of the fourth inning on a two-run and solo home run.
Fullerton responded with two runs in the home half of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. With Eli Lopez standing at second base, Colby Wallace hit a high fly ball to left field that was lost by the outfielder and dropped in fair territory to drive in Lopez.
One batter later, Nico Regino fought off an inside pitch to drive in Wallace from the third base and make it a 4-2 game.
San Diego seemingly put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning, extending its lead to 7-2.
Seth Sumner got his first start as a Titan and gave up one run on three hits in two innings pitched while striking out two batters. Sumner drew the loss to drop to 0-1 on the year.
Ivran Romero earned the win for San Diego to improve to 3-1 on the year after pitching 2.1 shutout innings.
The Titans return to conference play this weekend as they head to Blair Field to take on rival Long Beach State. Game one of the three-game series is Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
