ORANGE, CALIF. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team put together a big second half 14-7 comeback win over the Chapman Panthers on Friday evening at the Allred Aquatics Center.
The Titans (3-3) were trailing 6-5 against the Panthers after the halftime break. The Titans responded by scoring 9 goals in the second half and allowing just one goal to secure the win.
Shyanne Rainey and
Hannah Wilson led the offense with both scoring a hat trick. Â
Destiny Hernandez and
Taylor Mason both scored two goals apiece. Â
Madelyn Halva,
Mia Solorzano,
Eden Tal, and
Sydney Brouwer all got their names on the scoresheet as well.
Annabelle Sherman made seven saves and recorded four steals in the cage for the Titans.
The Titans and Chapman traded goals three times a piece in the first quarter. Â
Destiny Hernandez,
Taylor Mason, and
Sydney Brouwer all scored for the Titans during the period.
Madelyn Halva scored the first goal in the second quarter to give the Titans a 4-3 lead before Chapman scored twice to take a 5-4 lead. Â
Eden Tal got one goal back to tie the game at 5-5. Â The Panthers went ahead 6-5 with 46 seconds left in the period after a penalty goal.
Coming out of the break,
Taylor Mason scored to tie the game at 6-6. Â The Titans got two more goals in the period off a quick brace from
Hannah Wilson with two goals 19 seconds apart.
The Titans went ahead 10-6 in the fourth quarter after Mia Solarzano and
Shyanne Rainey scored within the first two minutes of the period.
Chapman got their last goal with 5:54 left in the game. The Titans scored four unanswered goals during the final five minutes. Â
Shyanne Rainey scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to complete her hat trick. Â
Destiny Hernandez added one goal with 3:36 left and
Hannah Wilson completed her hat trick with 0:32 left in the game.
The Titans will play three games next week. Â They began the week with a road game at Biola on Wednesday. Â The Titans will return to the Titans Aquatic Center on Thursday, February 15th against the University of Toronto and will take on Arizona State on Saturday, February 17th.
