Titans Earn First Win Over Ranked Opponent in Program History

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team defeated their first ranked opponent in their two-year history after defeating No. 24 Biola 12-10 on the road on Wednesday at the Splash Aquatics Center.

The Titans had a big second half with eight of their goals coming in the final two quarters including five in the fourth quarter.

Shyanne Rainey led the Titans with a double hat trick, she is the third Titan ever to score six or more goals in a game.  Taylor Mason scored a hat trick.  Destiny Hernandez scored twice and Faith Cuevas added a goal. Alexys Puche drew the start and made 11 saves in the cage for the Titans.

The Titans started from behind in the game down 2-0 until Destiny Hernandez scored the first TItan's goal with 1:27 left in the first quarter to make it a 2-1 game.



The Titans and Eagles traded three goals a piece in the second quarter with Shyanne Rainey scoring twice and Taylor Mason adding a goal in the period.



The Titans went into the halftime break down 5-4.

Biola scored to start the third quarter to make it 6-4.  Shyanne Rainey scored the next two goals to bring the Titans level at 6-6 for the first time with 2:46 left.



Rainey scored her third goal of the period and fifth goal of the game with 1:25 left in the quarter to make it 7-7.



Biola scored the first goal of the 4th quarter to take a 8-7 lead with 6:33 left in the game before the Titans went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-8 lead.  

Faith Cuevas scored to tie the game at 8-8 and Destiny Hernandez scored to make it a 9-8 game and give the Titans their first lead of the game.  



Shyanne Rainey scored her sixth goal of the game with 3:59 left and Taylor Mason added one with 3:07 left to make it 11-8.



The Eagles got two goals back to make it a 1-goal game at 11:10 with 1:10 left.  

However, Taylor Mason was able to score the dagger for the Titans with :46 left to give the Titans the 12-10 lead.



The Titans will return home tomorrow to take on the University of Toronto at 4 PM and they will take on No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday at 4 PM.
