Titans Post Comeback Win over University of Toronto

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team earned their fourth win in a row after posting their second straight comeback win in a 8-6 exhibition win over the University of Toronto on Thursday.

Shyanne Rainey continued her fantastic week after scoring four goals against the Varsity Blues.  Rainey has scored 10 goals in the last two games after scoring six over Biola yesterday. The Titans also got goals from Faith Cuevas, Mikka Von Scherr, Lacey Hall, and Stephanie Hidalgo. Haden Skye Bates made four saves in the cage for the Titans including two 5-meter penalty saves.

It was an extremely slow start to the game as neither side found the back of the net in the first quarter.

Toronto opened the scoring in the second quarter to take an early lead before Shyanne Rainey scored the next two goals to put the Titans ahead 2-1.

The Varsity Blues scored twice before the second period ended to nurse a 3-2 lead into halftime.

The Titans came out of the gates strong in the third quarter after going on a 4-0 run to build a 6-3 lead.  Rainey got her hat trick to tie the game at 3-3 and Faith Cuevas scored to put the Titans on top 4-3.

Shyanne Rainy got her fourth goal of the game with 2:58 left and Mikka Von Scherr added to the tally with 1:59 left to make it 6-3.

The Varsity Blues got one goal back late before Lacey Hall drilled into the corner with 10 seconds left to put the Titans on top 7-4.

The Varsity Blues made things interesting after scoring twice to start the quarter to make it an 7-6 game.  However, the Titans defense was able to hold strong for the final 6 minutes and 52 seconds.  Stephanie Hidalgo added the dagger for the Titans with 1:18 left to put the Titans ahead 8-6.

The Titans will now face a series of ranked opponents over their next couple games.  They will host No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday at 4 PM.
