IRVINE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's water polo team concluded their final day at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational with a 12-11 loss in sudden death overtime against Biola in the 15th place game.
The Titans led 11-10 heading into second overtime but gave up an equalizer in the second period of regular overtime before ultimately falling in the sudden death overtime period.
Destiny Hernandez led the team with 3 goals and one assist. Â
Kieran Scout Bates led the team with 6 points overall after scoring a brace and assisting on four goals. Â
Madelyn Halva had a brace as well for the Titans. Â
Faith Cuevas,
Taylor Mason,
Shyanne Rainey, and
Eden Tal all scored one goal. Â
Annabelle Sherman made 10 saves and 2 steals in the cage for the Titans.
The Titans took the lead twice in the first quarter at 1-0 and 2-1 behind goals from
Kieran Scout Bates and
Eden Tal. Â However, Biola led 3-2 after the first period.
Destiny Hernandez scored twice to open the second quarter to put the Titans on top 4-3. Â Biola equalized before
Taylor Mason put the Titans on top 5-4. Â The Eagles would respond to make it 5-5. Â
Destiny Hernandez completed her hat trick with 1:44 left in the quarter to make it 6-5. Â The Eagles again found an equalizer to make it a 6-6 game at halftime.
Biola scored first to start the third period before the Titans got three straight goals from
Madelyn Halva,
Kieran Scout Bates, and
Faith Cuevas. Â Biola made it 9-8 after a last second goal to end the period.
Shyanne Rainey scored the first goal of the fourth period with 3:07 left to give the Titans a two goal advantage at 10-8. Â However, Biola was able to score twice before the period ended to send it into overtime at 10-10.
The Titans scored the first goal in the first period of regular overtime after Halva got her second goal of the game. Â However, the Eagles would find the equalizer yet again in the second period of regular overtime to make it 11-11.
In the sudden death period of overtime, the Titans ran a play for the goalkeeper
Annabelle Sherman to score. Â However, her shot was saved and Veralie Naranjo was able to find a game-winning goal for Biola with the Titans having an open net.
The Titans will head to the Claremont Converge next weekend. On Friday, the Titans will take on Siena College and hosts Claremont Mudd-Scripps in Claremont.  The following day, the Titans will take on the Virginia Military Institute and Iona University at Chapman University's Allred Aquatics Center in Orange.
