FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Baseball dropped series-deciding game three to Fresno State Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field by a final score of 2-1. The Titans are now 3-3 on the year.
Chad Gurnea got the start for the Titans on the mound and pitched a great game. The freshman allowed just one earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out a career-high four batters in 5.2 innings of work.
The Titans broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning on a productive infield out by Marcos Rosales to drive in Moises Guzman from third base. Guzman hit a one-out double to get into scoring position before stealing third.
Fresno State responded to tie the game at 1-1 in the top half of the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk. Freshman Jason Krakoski walked in the run but did an impressive job to limit the Bulldogs to just one run.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the eighth inning on a single up the middle following a leadoff double and a sacrifice bunt to get the runner to third.
Fullerton looks to respond Tuesday night against LMU in its first midweek matchup of the season. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at Goodwin Field.
