RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team lost 67-56 against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Thursday at the SRC Arena.
The Titans moved to 7-16 overall and 3-10 in Big West play.
The Titans had a few bright spots in their first match against the Highlanders on Thursday. Â
Aixchel Hernandez scored a season high 12 points after going 6-for-9 from the floor. Â The Titans also had two strong quarters in the second and fourth quarter where they outscored the Highlanders (20-to-13) and (19-to-13). The Titans also outshot their opponent 47.7% from the floor vs the Highlander's 38.7%. Nine of the eleven Titans scored in the game with the Titans getting 30 bench points.
However, there were plenty of negatives for the Titans that contributed to their sixth loss in a row. Â The Titans tied a season high 27 turnovers which led to 24 points for UC Riverside. Â The Titans had two bad quarters where UC Riverside outscored them 15-to-5 and 26-to-12. The Titans shot a season low 55% from the charity stripe after going 11-for-20.
After the first quarter, UC Riverside led 15-to-15. Â
Gabi Vidmar scored the first bucket of the game before the Highlanders went on a 15-1 run. Â Contributing to that, the Titans had nine turnovers in the first quarter alone. Â The Titans got a late basket from
Hope Hassmann before the period ended.
After struggling out of the gates, the Titans played their best basketball in the second quarter. Â After being down 27-15 with 4:38 left in the game. Â The Titans went on a 10-1 run to finish the second quarter. Â

Aixchel Hernandez each scored two buckets down the stretch of the quarter to make it a 28-25 game going into halftime.
The Highlanders sucked all the momentum from the Titans in the third quarter after going on a 11-2 run to start the period to open up a 12-point lead at 39-27. The Highlanders stretched their lead to 15 a couple times before finally taking a commanding 17-point lead (54-37) into the fourth quarter.
Demonnie Lagway started the Titans off with five points on a three pointer and a layup to start the fourth quarter.
Each time the Titans tried to start a run in the fourth quarter, the Highlanders answered. Â The Titans finally started making a run late with Gavi Vidmar hitting a three-pointer and
Aixchel Hernandez hitting a jumper but the Titans could only close the gap to 11 points.
The Titans will try to shake their sixth game losing streak off after hosting UC San Diego on Saturday. Â Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm with the broadcast also being aired on Spectrum Sportsnet.
