FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's tennis team continued their perfect start to the season after defeating the LMU Lions 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the TItan Courts.
The Titans (3-0) avenged a 4-0 sweep from last season at Loyola Marymount.
The Titans led 1-0 after taking the doubles point. The Titans had to rally after the No. 3 pairing of
Kaytlin Taylor and
Seha Yu lost their match. The No.1 pairing of
Josie Usereau and Natalie won their match 6-2. It came down to the No. 2 pairing of
Sein Myoung and
Mariia Nikitash who pulled out the 7-5 win to secure the point.
In the singles portion, the Titans won five of six singles matches. Making her dual season debut,
Josie Usereau won 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot. No. 3
Sein Myoung made it a 3-0 game after defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-2. LMU got their only win of the day in the No. 2 singles spot after Natalie Dufffy lost 4-6, 5-7. No. 5
Kaytlin Taylor secured the fourth and match point for the Titans after winning 7-5, 7-5. The Titans played out the final two matches with No. 4
Seha Yu winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and No. 6
Mariia Nikitash winning 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-3
The Titans will now begin a 3-game roadtrip beginning with one match next Friday against Fresno State.
