FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball fell 69-61 against the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Saturday evening at Titan Gym.
The Titans moved to 7-15 overall for the season and 3-8 in conference play.
The Titans had their worst start of the game for the season after falling behind 19-to-2 to start the game. Â The Titans made a late run towards the end of the quarter with
Hope Hassmann and
Emily Strachan making corner three-pointers to make it a 23-10 game before the quarter ended.
The Roadrunners shot 73% from the floor in the first quarter (11-for-15).
The second quarter was a more even affair with CSUB outscoring the Titans 13-to-11 for the period. Â
Allysan Tse led the Titans with five points in the quarter. The Roadrunners took a 36-to-21 lead into halftime. Â
They shot 64% from the floor while the Titans shot 29.6 from the floor.
After a tough first half for the Titans, they put together a very strong second half. Â They shot 69% in the third quarter and began chipping away at the Bakersfield lead.
The Titans and Roadrunners continued to trade baskets to begin the period but slowly began cutting away at the Bakersfield 15-point lead. Â The Titans made four three-pointers in the third quarter with
Gabi Vidmar drilling three of them.
The Titans trailed 54-44 heading into the final period. Â The Titans continued chipping away at the Bakersfield lead to start the quarter as
Gabi Vidmar made two more three pointers to cut the deficit to under 10.
Aixchel Hernandez made four straight points and an
Eva Levingston jumper cut the lead to within 4 points at 64-60 with 3:34 left.Â
However, the Titans ran out of momentum as they went 0-for-6 down the stretch when they were just four points away from tying the game up.
The Titans will take on UC Riverside for the first time this season on Thursday. Â Tip-off is set for 6 PM at the SRC Arena in Riverside.
