Women's Basketball Drops Conference Opener at Long Beach

Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team dropped their conference opener 67-56 on the road against Long Beach at the Walter Pyramid on Thursday night.

The Titans fell to 0-8 overall to start the season while the Beach improved to 4-3 overall.

Aaliyah Stanton scored a career high 21 points as she went 5-for-12 from the floor and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.  Aixchel Hernandez picked up her second double-double of the season and the fifth of her career as she scored 12 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.  

The Titans shot 28% from the floor after going 17-for-61 for the game while the Beach shot 40% going 27-for-67 from the floor.  Both sides had a poor night at the free throw line with the Titans shooting 65% (15-for-23) and the Beach shooting a worse 53% (10-for-19).   The Beach outrebounded the Titans 53-to-38 and outscored the Titans 38-to-14 on paints inside the paint.  The Beach also had 9 blocked shots against the Titans.

The Titans had a good start to the game as Aaliyah Stanton scored the first seven points for the Titans to spot them an early 7-2 lead.  



The Titans were able to hold off the Beach for the rest of the first quarter and led 15-12 after the first quarter.

The Titans and Beach traded buckets to start the second quarter and the Titans led 23-18 with 3:03 left in the first half.  The Beach went on an 8-2 run to finish the half and led 26-25 at halftime.

The Beach went on a 9-0 run to start the third quarter and took a 10 point lead ove the Titans before Eva Levingston scored a layup. The Beach stretched their lead as far 12 points during the quarter but the Titans were able to bring it back within 9 points at the end of the quarter with the Beach leading 46-37.

Aaliyah Stanton started the fourth quarter off with a layup and a free throw to make it a six point game before Long Beach stretched the lead up to 16 points.  Madelynn Muniz caught fire in the fourth quarter draining three three-pointers and Jana Falsdottir also had a late three pointer to bring the final score back down to 11 points.

The Titans will host UC Riverside on Saturday for their conference home opener.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Highlanders defeated CSUN 72-48 in their conference opener on Thursday.
