Fullerton Drops Road Game at Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team lost to Fordham 66-51 on Friday night at the Rose Hill Gym in the Titans second game of the season.

The Titans were taking on Fordham for just the second meeting in the team's history.  Fordham led for 90% of the game with the score tied for a couple moments.

The Titans shooting woes continued as they shot just 31% from the floor (18-for-58) while Fordham only shot 40.3% from the floor.  The Titans were better than Monday at the charity stripe going 68.8% from the line (11-for-16). The Titans committed 19 turnovers for the game which led to 19 points for the Rams.  The Rams dominated the paint against the Titans, scoring 42 of their 66 points inside the paint.

Aixchel Hernandez led the Titans with the fourth double-double of her career after scoring 13 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.  She also had 3 blocks and four steals as she completed her second game in a row of playing the full 40 minutes.  Aaliyah Stanton had 12 points along with four assists.  Emily Strachan and Madelynn Muniz both contributed with 9 points.

Fordham jumped to an early 7-1 lead to start the game before the Titans tied the game back up at 7-7.  Emily Strachan, Demonnie Lagway, and Aaliyah Stanton all scored to tie the game up. The Titans went cold over the final four minutes as Fordham took a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Titans started the second quarter strong as the Titans got a three pointer from Madelynn Muniz and Emily Strachan to tie the game at 19-19.

However, the Rams outscored the Titans 11-to-3 over the final six minutes of the half to take a 30-22 lead over the Titans into the break.

The Titans tried to claw their way back into the game and got within six points in the third quarter after Aixchel Hernandez made a jumper with 3:37 left to make it a 40-34 game.  However, the Rams stretched the lead back to 12 points at 49-37 before the third quarter ended.

The Rams stretched their lead to their largest margin at 18 points during the 14th quarter as they outscored the Titans 17-14 for the period.

The Titans will take on Long Island University on Sunday morning to complete their East Coast trip. Tip off is set for 10:00 A.M. Pacific time.
