Titans Draw Against CSUN to Secure Spot in Big West Championships

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer earned a 1-1 draw against CSUN Saturday night in the regular season finale to earn a spot in The Big West Championships. They finished the season with a 7-5-7 record and a 3-2-4 record in Big West play.Ā

Fullerton and UC Riverside finished the season tied with 13 points in conference play, however, the Titans advance on conference goal differential after the two teams played to a 3-3 draw earlier in the year. The Titans will be the No. 6 seed in the conference championship and will play at UC Irvine Wednesday night.Ā

Just before the half, Fullerton scored off a set piece from about 30 yards out which resulted in an own goal by CSUN in the 44th minute. CSUN led the Titans with eight shots to four and had more quality chances, however, Fullerton put the ball in a dangerous area leading to the own goal.Ā

CSUN came back to tie the game in the second half as Michael Blevins scored in the 63rd minute of action.

Fullerton battled to find the go-ahead goal but were just unable to come up with any quality chances in the final third.Ā

Brandon Limes made an unbelievable save early in the first half which would turn out to be a game-saving goal, leading to the Titans earning a spot in The Big West Championships.Ā

Prior to the game the men's soccer program and Cal State Fullerton Athletics honored nine seniors for their contributions to the program. Brandon Limes, Giovanni Gloria, Matthias Heiland, Mario Carlos, Erick Serrano, Sulaiman Bah, Jonathan Grado, Roberto Ordonez and Jorge Quintero all were recognized.
