COLFAX, Wash. – Cal State Fullerton men's cross country tied its highest NCAA Regional finish in program history, placing 10th in consecutive seasons, while the women finished 25th at the NCAA West Regionals Friday morning.Â
The men's team took 10th place for the second year in a row with six out of seven runners finishing in the top 100 (30-53-72-84-92-96-133). As a team, the Titans posted an average 10k run time of 30:39.Â
Marco Perez (29:44.8) became the first Big West runner to cross the finish line. Individually, Perez placed 30th overall and paced the Fullerton men to their top 10 finish.
Tony Chavez ran a 30:17.5 to place 53rd, while
Talman Young took 72nd place crossing the line in under 31 minutes (30:50.4).Â
Justin Singer (84th, 31:06.3),
JT McCoy (92nd, 31:14.6) and
Jonathan Pfeiffer (31:18.8) joined the team-leading runners in the top 100 runners in the 10k. Nathaniel rounded out the Titan runners with a 31:56.3 run time for 133rd place.Â
The women's squad placed 25th as a team with runners finishing 77-89-138-183-199-200-254 in the 6k race for a total of 676 points. Collectively, the runners completed the race in an average 21:55.Â
Nanette Novak led the Titan women with a 21:09.3 run time. Individually, Novak placed 77th out of 262 long distance runners.
Bella Smith (21:18.2) joined Novak in the top 100 finishers, taking 89th place.Â
Ashlynn Viramontes (22:01.7),
Shandy Moore (22:23.7)
Natalyn Membreno (22:37.6) and
Elena Martinez (22:38.4) all crossed the finish line in under 23 minutes.
Natalie Maahs ran a 24:22.2 to place 254th, concluding Fullerton's competitors.
