Titans Fall in Home Opener to Sac State

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team fell to the Sacramento State Hornets by a score of 67-40. in Titan Gym on Thursday night. 

The game was tied two times in the early first quarter , Demonnie Lagway had the Titans first nine points of the game starting the game 3 for 5 from the field. The Titans shot 40% from the field in the quarter compared to the Hornets 36%. However, the Titans had four turnovers to give the Hornets a 17-13 lead after the first.



The Hornets started the quarter on a 8-2 run giving them a 25-15 lead. Both teams went scoreless for three minutes until Eva Levingston got the Titans going to bring the lead down to 8. Levingston also had a steal in the quarter that led to a transition bucket. Aixchel Hernandez scored back-to-back buckets for the Titans, giving her four points in the game. 



The Titans were down 22-30 to end the half. 

Emily Strachan got the scoring early in the 3rd quarter for the Titans by causing a foul and getting to the line. The Hornets extended their lead to 16 in the first minutes of the quarter. The Titans trailed 36-53 at the end of three. Hernandez had four points in the quarter. 



Aaliyah Stanton hit her first three of the game in the fourth quarter. It was the Titans second three of the game.Stanton also had a team leading four assists on the game. The Hornets went 3-3 from the field in the first five minutes of the fourth, outscoring the Titans by six.

The Titans were led in scoring by Lagway with 11 points. Hernandez came up just short of a double-double with 8 points and ten rebounds on the night. The Hornets had four players in double digits in scoring as they shot 45.3% from the floor and 42.9% from the 3-point line.  The Titans shot a season low 27.9% and were just of 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.

The Titans travel to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies next Thursday, November 21st. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. on the BIG10+ network.
