Titans Sweep Day One at Gary Troyer Tournament

ORANGE, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans mens' water polo team won both games on Friday at the Gary Troyer Tournament at Allred Aquatics Center at Chapman College.

The Titans defeated Biola 12-10 in their first game of the day before defeating Westcliff 17-12 in their second game of the day. 

Cal State Fullerton 12, Biola 10

The Titans started down against Biola to start the game before rattling off seven unanswered goals to open up a six goal lead.  The Titans nursed a 9-4 lead going into halftime against Biola.

The third quarter only had one goal apiece from each side as the Titans led 10-5 after three quarters.

Biola made things interesting in the fouth quarter afte outscoring the Titans 5-to-2 but two goals from Tony Benedetti and Nico D'Angelo were enough for the Titans to see out their second victory over Biola for the season.

In the first game, Julian Nichols led the team with 3 goals.  Togan Ozbek and Shelby Johnson each scored twice in the game.  Garrett Henderson picked up the win after making six saves for the game.

Cal State Fullerton 17, Westcliff 12

The Titans once again had to come from behind to start the game against Westcliff.  Westcliff had a 2-0 lead to start the game before the Titans were able to finish the quarter tied at 3 with Ozbek scoring twice and Nico D'Angelo scoring his first of four goals for the game. 

The second quarter was a pretty even affair with the Titans outscoring the Warriors 5-to-4 for the period.  Alec Isaacman, Tony Benedetti, Jacob Hatch (2), Nico D'Angelo, all found the back of the net in the second quarter.

The Titans outscored the Warriors 7-to-2 in the third quarter to blow open the game.  Julian Nichols score three goals in the third, D'Angelo scored twice, and Ozbek and Ethan Cooney each scored once in the quarter.

The Warriors outscored the Titans 3-2 in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome the 6 goal difference.  Bo Brown and Reese Starkey each scored for the Titans in the fourth quarter.

The Titans are back in action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Gary Troyer Tournament.  They will take on Corcordia University Irvine at 10:40 am in Claremont before taking on Ottawa University at 3:40 PM in La Verne.  Both matches will have live stats available via the Fosh, the game against Ottawa will be streamed via the paid streaming service, Flo Swimming.
