Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Titans Fall to Cal Poly in First Home Loss of Season

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer suffered its first defeat at Titan Stadium this season, falling to Cal Poly by a final score of 1-0 Saturday night.Ā

Coming into the game Fullerton was undefeated at home with a record of 2-0-3. With the loss the Titans drop to 6-5-5 on the year and 2-2-2 in Big West play, leaving them in seventh place in theĀ conference standings.Ā

Neither team was able to get much going in the first half aside from a great look by Roberto Ordonez. The senior received a tough angle pass just outside the 18-yard box that he was able to get on net but wasn't able to place wide enough to beat the goalkeeper.Ā

Cal Poly broke the scoreless tie in the 53rd minute on a goal by Oren Stuppel to take a 1-0 lead.Ā

The Mustangs kept a majority of players back on defense throughout the game which only increased after taking the lead, making it difficult for Fullerton to get any good looks on goal from a dangerous area.Ā

The Titans outshot their opponent once again, leading 14 to five in shots. Fullerton also earned significantly more corner kicks than Cal Poly with 10 to just two for the Mustangs. Coming into the game the Titans ranked tied for second in the country with 93 corner kicks on the year.Ā

Fullerton looks to get back in the win column Wednesday night as Sacramento State comes to Titan Stadium for a Big West matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
