RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Tony Chavez and Bella Smith paced the Cal State Fullerton men's and women's cross country teams to two top 10 finishes at the Highlander Invite hosted by UC Riverside on Saturday morning.

As a team, the men's team finished sixth overall with 159 points while averaging a team-mile time of 5:04. 

Tony Chavez led Fullerton's men's team, individually finishing the 8k race in fifth place. Chavez set a new season-best with a 24:12.7 8k run time. Logan Harris (38th, 25:06.4) and Carlos Maradiaga (45th, 25:14.3) joined Chavez as the three Titan top 50 finishers. 

Sean Lacey completed the 8k in 55th place after crossing the finish line in 25:22.7. Matthew Kubler (25:48.0) placed 78th, and Diego Mejia (27:21.7) finished out the Titans scoring runners. 

The Titan women, led by Bella Smith for the second meet in a row, also placed sixth overall with 184 points. Smith took home ninth place with a 21:05.0 6k finish. 

Shandy Moore (21:52.1) placed 32nd, shaving off approximately 10 seconds from her last race at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Natalyn Membreno (22:33.0) placed 62nd, Destiny Lopez (22:33.2) took 65th and Grace Toriz (22:33.5) followed closely behind in 66th place. Cassandra Santillano (22:47.7) became the last Titan to finish in the top 100, being the 96th female runner to complete the 6k. Kalei Aoki-Chance (23:09.6), Julia Rudolph (23:16.2) and Trista Michael (23:41.5) rounded out Fullerton's scoring finishers. 

The Titans are set to host the John Elders Titan Classic on Friday, Oct. 25. The Invite will commence at 5 p.m. with the women's 5k race and end with the men's 8k race at 5:40 p.m.
