Titans Fall in Straight Sets to Cal Poly

Lolo Fonua recorded 8 kills and 15 total attacks in defeat

Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in straight sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) in their sixth Big West Conference game of the season. They are now 0-6 in conference and 4-12 overall.Ā 

The Titans trailed behind early but managed to take the lead at 5-4 after major kills from Bianca Martinez, Ketesia Hall and Lyla Traylor. Halfway into the set, the Mustangs went on a 6-1 run, hitting .536 as a team to lead Fullerton 16-10.Ā 

Laura Williams hit .400 in the first set, but the Titans could not overcome the deficit. They lost 25-14 after the Mustangs finished the set with a 7-2 run.Ā 

Going into the second set, the Titans made some adjustments with placing Rylie Sengdara in the libero position and Williams in the outside hitter position. Williams registered 10 total attacks and 2 kills in the second set.Ā Martinez started the set off strong with back-to-back points. She and Williams recorded a block to take the lead at 4-3.



Sengdara showed hustle for the Titans recording 10 digs in the match. Lolo Fonua stayed consistently strong for the Titans hitting .400 and .750 in the second and third sets. The Titans and Mustangs went neck-and-neck throughout the second set, but Cal Poly pulled through with another 5-1 run to close out the set at 25-17.Ā 

Fullerton kicked off the third set on a 5-1 run. Traylor registered an early ace but Cal Poly managed to pull away with a 4-0 run at 19-15. The Titans fell to the Mustangs, 25-18, despite registering nine digs and eight kills.

The Titans travel to La Jolla to take on the UC San Diego Tritons on Friday at 6:00 p.m. before visiting Long Beach State on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.Ā
