LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team lost against the UC San Diego Tritons 71-58 on Saturday at the Liontree Arena.
The Titans moved to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in Big West play for the season after their conference opening win at Long Beach State.Â
The Titans shot 34.5% from the floor while the Tritons shot 49% from the floor. Â The Titans outrebounded 39-to-28 for the game. Almost the entire Titans bench chipped in on the offensive effort for the game as
Gabi Vidmar led the Titans with 10 points. Â
Demonnie Lagway had 9 points and
Brielle Minor had her best game with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Titans got 33 points from the bench against the Tritons. Â
In the first quarter, the Titans were only down by one at the end of the period, 13-12. Â
Hope Hassmann found
Ashlee Lewis for the Titans first score of the period before UCSD took a 9-2 lead.

The Titans fought their way back with Lewis getting another bucket and
Demonnie Lagway driving a pair of layups.
Aixchel Hernandez made two layups before the end of the period to keep it close at 13-12.

In the second quarter, the Tritons outscored the Titans 19-to-11 for the period. Â The Tritons took a 30-17 lead with 2:34 left in the quarter before
Emily Strachan and
Allysan Tse drilled back-to-back three pointers to bring the Triton lead down to seven. Â The Titans had a couple of opportunities to make it closer but Sumayah Sugapong hit a jumper for the Tritons to give them a 9-point lead heading to the break. At the halftime break, the Titans were trailing by nine, 32-23. Â The Tritons were shooting 46.4% from the floor at the half (13-for-28) while the Titans were shooting 34.5% (10-for-29).
The Titans once again saved their best basketball for the third quarter as they outscored UCSD 20-to-17 for the period. Â The Tritons led 41-29 with 5:49 left in the third quarter. Â The Titans went on a 10-0 run to make the score 41-39.

Brielle Minor and
Aixchel Hernandez led the Titans with a couple layups each to make it a one score game.

The Titans kept it within one score until the Tritons got two late three pointers to take a 49-41 lead with :22 left in the third. Â Minor made two free throws before the end of the period to make it a six point game at 49-43.
The Titans comeback attempt would fall short in the fourth quarter when they were outscored 22-to-15 for the period. Â Kathryn Neef made a three-pointer at 9:07 left to make it a 51-46 game before the Tritons went on a 12-1 run to take a 63-48 lead with 4:45 left.
The Titans made some late hustle plays towards the final five minutes with
Brielle Minor leading the charge but the deficit was too large to overcome.

The Titans will look to shake things off as they only have one game next week as they host the CSUN Matadors on Saturday, January 13th. Â Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
