FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team split their day on Saturday at the Titan Aquatics Center after losing 11-6 to No. 19 LMU in the morning before coming back later that afternoon with a big 14-3 win over Cal Lutheran.
Cal State Fullerton 6, LMU 11
The Titans battled with the No. 19 LMU Lions in their first game of the day on Saturday morning at the Titans Aquatic Center. Â The Titans hung with them for the first half until LMU broke away with a big third quarter to build a commanding lead over the Titans.
Shyanne Rainey and
Mia Solorzano each scored a brace against the Lions. Â
Kieran Scout Bates and
Lacey Hall also added tallies for the Titans. Â
Annabelle Sherman made 13 saves in the cage for the Titans.
The Lions built a 3-0 lead to start the game off before the Titans got a late goal from Rainey in the first quarter.
The Titans brought the game to within one score twice in the second quarter after
Kieran Scout Bates scored the first goal in the second quarter and
Mia Solorzano scored a penalty.
After holding the Lions to a 4-3 lead heading into halftime, the Lions opened up the third quarter on a 4-0 run to build a 8-3 lead. Â
Shyanne Rainey and
Mia Solorzano added late goals in the quarter to make it a 9-5 game. The Titans scored the first goal in the fourth quarter behind
Lacey Hall to make it a 9-6 game before the Lions added two more goals before the final whistle.
Cal State Fullerton 14, Cal Lutheran 3
The Titans dominated from start to finish in their second game of the day against Cal Lutheran.
The Titans had 10 different goal scorers for the game led by
Destiny Hernandez who led the offense with a hat trick. Â
Madelyn Halva and
Shyanne Rainey also scored a brace in the game. Â
Eden Tal and
Hannah Wilson both had two assists each. Â
Alexys Puche made six saves in the cage while
Haden Skye Bates also made six saves.
The Titans put up a 4-spot in the first quarter behind goals from Hernandez,
Lacey Hall, Rainey, and
Faith Cuevas.
The Regals scored the first goal in the second quarter before the Titans responded with a 6-0 run behind goals from Tal, Hernandez, Rainey,
Sydney Brouwer,
Madelyn Halva, and
Emily Midgley. Â The Titans led 10-1 heading into halftime.
The Titans outscored the Regals 3-to-1 in the third quarter. Â
Destiny Hernandez completed her first career hat trick for the Titans with 5:43 left in the third. Â
Taylor Mason and
Madelyn Halva scored in the period.
In the final quarter,
Delaney Wilder scored the sole goal for the Titans.
The Titans will have next week off before heading to Chapman next Friday for their next match and first away game of the season.
