FULLERTON, Calif. — Fueled by a game-high 17 points from DJ Brewton and a near double-double from Tory San Antonio, Cal State Fullerton's men's basketball defeated Cal State Bakersfield 68-50 Saturday night at Titan Gym. The result improves the Titans' conference record to 4-5 on the season and their overall record to 11-10.
Brewton led the Titans with 17 points on 6-12 shooting to go with a pair of rebounds. San Antonio followed with 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting, all from three-point range, and nine rebounds. Freshman Kendrick De Luna secured a career-high 6 points after shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the field.
The Titans took an early 6-0 lead following a Brewton jumper and a hook shot in the paint by Vincent Lee. A pair of free throws and two triples from San Antonio later helped the?? Titans extend their lead, 20-14.
Fullerton shot an efficient 5-of-11 from deep in the first half, tallying a 45.6% clip. This included a pair of triples from Grayson Carper and Donovan Oday to extend the Titans lead, 38-25, at the half.
The Titans continued their hot three-point shooting out of the break with San Antonio and Max Jones each making one to push the Titans lead to 46-27.
The Roadrunners produced a 9-2 run before De Luna scored down low while being fouled, making it 50-36 for Fullerton. The Titans closed the final minutes of the game strong, with San Antonio hitting another trey and Brewton adding a couple of layups as Fullerton ran away with the 68-50 victory.
Up next, the Titans have a single game next week as they host Hawai'i on Thursday night at Titan Gym. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.
