Titans Fall Short at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Despite taking a one-point lead with 4:34 left, Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell 76-71 on the road at CSUN Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Titans to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in Big West play.

Max Jones led Fullerton with 17 points, four steals and four rebounds while Tory San Antonio added 14 points, five boards and four assists. Grayson Carper contributed 11 points and three boards and Donovan Oday scored nine.

After falling behind 63-60 with 5:19 to go, San Antonio found Jones for a right-wing triple to tie things up at 63. Jones hit a pair of free throws on the Titans' following offensive possession to give Fullerton its one-point lead, 65-64, with 4:34 to go. But the Matadors closed the game on a 12-6 run to take the 76-71 win.

CSUN jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the first half before the Titans came fighting back, tying things up at 15 with a San Antonio jumper and John Mikey Square basket in the paint. A pair of Carper triples later put Fullerton on top, 32-31, as the Titans took a 36-34 lead into the locker room.

Teams traded baskets throughout much of the second half, with another Jones trey giving Fullerton a 41-38 lead. A San Antonio step-back jumper followed by another three from Jones gave the Titans a 50-49 lead with 12:52 left.

Carper and Oday scored in the paint before Jones knocked down three free throws as Fullerton led 60-59 with 7:04 to go. The Titans took their 65-64 lead with 4:34 to go after two more free throws from Jones, but CSUN ultimately came away with the 76-71 victory.
