Titans Drop Home Contest to UC Davis, 67-65

FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton men's basketball led by one with 1:24 left but ultimately fell 67-65 to UC Davis Thursday night at Titan Gym. The loss drops the Titans to 8-10 overall and 1-5 in Big West play. 

Max Jones led Fullerton with 18 points, four rebounds and three assists while Tory San Antonio had 12 points and six boards. Beril Kabamba contributed 11 points and seven rebounds and Grayson Carper added 11 and five boards. 

The Titans led for most of the second half, including by as many as 11 with 9:19 to go before ultimately falling to the Aggies. UC Davis went on a 7-2 run before a Jones triple pushed Fullerton's lead back to nine, 58-49, with 5:44 left. But the Aggies again went on a 12-2 run to take a 61-60 lead with 1:58 to go. 

Kabamba knocked down a pair of free throws on the following possession to give the Titans their one-point lead, 62-61, with 1:24 left. But UC Davis' Elijah Pepper then answered with a pair of free throws to put the Aggies back up as they held on for the 67-65 win. 

UC Davis jumped out to a 9-4 advantage early in the contest before back-to-back treys from Kabamba and Carper put Fullerton up 17-15. San Antonio, Carper and Jones later each added three-pointers to give the Titans a 30-25 advantage. Carper hit one more three just before the half as Fullerton carried a 36-27 lead into the locker room. 

Jones hit another triple early in the second half and DJ Brewton found Carper for a transition layup to give the Titans a 46-35 advantage with 13:09 left. Kabamba found San Antonio for a trey and John Mikey Square added a layup to give Fullerton its 11-point lead, 53-42, with 9:19 to go. But UC Davis went on to win, 67-65. 

Up next the Titans travel up the coast to take on UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT.
