Perez's Late Header Rescues Point for Titans Against Hawaii

FULLERTON, Calif. - Jenae Perez salvaged a late equalizer for the Titans women's soccer team as they drew 1-1 with the University of Hawai'i at home on Thursday night at Titan Stadium to pick up their first Big West point of the season.

After going down a goal at the death of the first half, the Titans were generating offensive attacks one after another but couldn't break through the UH defense. Finally, in the 86th minute, Amber Mallas' free kick was met by a flick header from Jenae Perez who scored over the UH keeper.  Perez, a transfer from UCI, scored her first collegiate goal on the play.

The Titans (2-4-5, 0-1-1 BWC) had their second thirty shot output of the season after peppering UH's goal with 30 shots but only had 7 shots on frame. After dominating the first 35 minutes of play the Titans were outshooting Hawaii 11-to-2.

The Rainbow Wahine absorbed the pressure and got a late corner kick near the end of the first half.  Zoe Park scored on a free ball after the ball bounced around a couple times in the Fullerton box on a corner kick to put some wind out of the Titans' sails heading into halftime.

The Titans came out on a mission to start the second half with six shots and three corner kicks within the first five minutes of play.  Laurie Ann Moise had a perfect header from the 6 yard box saved by UH's Sophia Augustin.

UH tried subbing in fresh leg after fresh leg in the second half and to kill some clock but the Titans kept hunting for a goal.

The Titans had another golden opportunity to score in the 83rd minute after Isabella Cruz had a shot from outside the box hit the underside of the crossbar.  Kaitlin Taylor was there to clean up the rebound but her open header didn't have enough pace and was saved by the UH keeper once again.

Finally after a foul in the 86th minute outside the Rainbow Wahine box.  Amber Mallas sent in a perfect ball to a wide open Jenae Perez who's header salvaged a point for the Titans.

The Titans had another great opportunity to win the game in the 89th minute but Moise's shot went just wide of the UH net.

Mia Ranson made two saves for the game. Sophie Augustin made four saves along with the Hawaii defense making two team saves by clearing balls off the line.

The Titans will host CSUN on Sunday, September 24th at 5 PM.  The Titans will also have a halftime ceremony celebrating 30 years of the Titans women's soccer program.
