Men's Soccer Defeats UCLA 4-1 at Titan Stadium

The Titans beat UCLA for the first time since Oct. 26, 2000

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's soccer defeated UCLA, 4-1, Sunday night at Titan Stadium. With the win the Titans improve to 4-2-2 on the year.

The Titans broke a seven game winless streak against UCLA, earning their first victory over the Bruins since Oct. 26, 2000. Fullerton's 4-1 win Sunday is the largest margin of victory over UCLA in program history.

Fullerton got the start it needed, scoring in the second minute of action to take an early 1-0 lead. Matthias Heiland scored on a bouncing ball in the 18-yard box for his first goal of the season. Sulaiman Bah assisted on the goal.

UCLA came back to tie the game in the 18th minute on a goal by Andre Ochoa, assisted by Jose Contell.

The Titans quickly responded to retake the lead in the 20th minute on an unbelievable finish by Marci Killeen to score his first goal of the season.

With the Titans holding onto a one-goal lead, Heiland drew a foul in the 18-yard box to earn a penalty kick. Roberto Ordonez buried the PK in the 72nd minute to put the Titans up 3-1.

Fullerton put the game away in the 85th minute on a great header by Ordonez. The junior now has a team-high 11 points on four goals and three assists.

Jorge Quintero assisted on the goal, stealing the ball away from a UCLA defender before sending in a perfect cross to Ordonez.

UCLA controlled a majority of possession in the game, however, the Titans stood firm on the defensive end and picked opportune moments to attack. Tetsuya Kadono had a strong game in goal for the Titans, coming up with three key saves to hold the Bruins to just one goal

The Titans are back on the pitch Thursday as the team heads to Los Angeles to take on LMU. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.
