FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton women's volleyball fell in straight sets (22-25, 19-25, 15-25) to Grand Canyon Friday night at Titan Gym in its first game of the Big West/WAC Showdown. The result moves the Titans to 1-7 on the season. 

Ameena Campbell paced Fullerton offensively with 14 kills on a season-best .290 clip, also adding six digs, a pair of blocks and an ace. Aubrey Beaver followed with 10 kills and eight digs while Bianca Martinez had five kills and five blocks. Ryleigh Garis posted 26 assists, six digs and a pair of blocks. 

Collectively, Fullerton hit at a .167 percentage to Grand Canyon's .320. The Antelopes out-numbered the Titans 44-33 in kills on the night. 

The Titans jumped out to a convincing lead in set number one, leading 9-4 following a Campbell ace and Martinez kill. Fullerton later led 19-14 after kills from Laura Williams and Campbell. The Titans seemed poised to take the set, leading 22-20, but Grand Canyon scored five unanswered to win it, 25-22. 

Teams traded points in the second set, with back-to-back kills from Beaver and another from Campbell to tie things at 12. The Antelopes, though, used an 11-5 run to take a 23-17 advantage. Another Campbell kill kept the Titans in it momentarily, but Grand Canyon went on to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 set win. 

Grand Canyon jumped out to an 8-1 lead to start the third set. Fullerton stuck around, with a Garis ace and two kills from Beaver highlighting a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to five, 15-10. But the Antelopes finished strong, using a 10-5 run to seal the 25-15 set-three win and the sweep. 

The Titans return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 16, against California Baptist in their second and final match of the Big West/WAC Showdown. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m. PT.
