Titans Defeat Sacramento State for Fourth Straight Win

FULLERTON, Calif. — Cal State Fullerton held on to defeat Sacramento State 62-60 Saturday on the road behind a career-high 23 points from DJ Brewton. The win is the Titans' fourth straight and improves their record to 6-4 on the season.

Brewton reached 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting to go with five rebounds and a block in 35 minutes of action. Max Jones added eight points and four steals while Tory San Antonio also had eight points in his first game back from injury this season.

As a team Fullerton recorded a 47% shooting clip, including 62.5% in the first half, while holding the Hornets to 39% shooting on the game.

For the second consecutive game, Brewton scored timely baskets down the stretch to allow the Titans to hold on for the win. After leading by 14 at halftime, Fullerton saw its lead cut to three before a Brewton basket made it 53-48 for the Titans with 6:16 to go.

Then, with 2:48 remaining, Sac State cut Fullerton's lead to a single point before Brewton again knocked down a jumper to bring the score to 59-56 for the Titans. The Hornets tied things up at 60 with 41 seconds left, but Brewton got to the line and knocked down 1-of-2 to give Fullerton the lead back as the Titans held on for the 62-60 win.

Fullerton dominated the first half, as San Antonio hit a pair of jumpers, Jones added a three and Brewton completed a three-point play to cap a 13-0 run and put the Titans up 19-7. San Antonio scored down low, Grayson Carper hit a three and Brewton scored just before the half to give Fullerton a 41-27 lead at the break.

The Titans saw their lead dwindle in the second half, as Sac State used a 15-4 run to make it 45-42 for Fullerton midway through the period. The Hornets kept things close throughout, but the Titans never gave up their lead down the stretch as they held on for the 62-60 road victory.

Up next, Fullerton takes a week off for final exams before traveling to Idaho to take on Boise State on Sunday, Dec. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PT/2:00 p.m. MT.
