FRESNO, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's basketball team scored a season-high as they defeated Fresno State 77-68 on the road on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center.
The Titans (4-3) defeated Fresno State for the first time since 2006 and the first time in Fresno since January 2nd, 1991.
The Titans had their best shooting game of the season after shooting 54% from the field and 58% from beyond the arc. Â The Titans were led by three players in double digit scoring behind
Hope Hassmann,
Ashlee Lewis, and
Gabi Vidmar. Â Hassmann tied a career-high with 22 points on 7-11 shooting, 6-6 from the free throw line, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Â
Ashlee Lewis scored a season-high 19 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Gabi Vidmar had 18 points on 7-10 shooting including going 4-6 from 3-pointers.
The Titans led from the beginning of the game after
Ashlee Lewis opened up the scoring on a layup. Â The Titans and Bulldogs would trade leads with the Bulldogs having their biggest lead at 10-6 with 5:17 left to go in the first quarter. Â The Titans regained the lead after going on a 15-6 run to end the first quarter and held it for the rest of the game. Â The Titans shot 64.3% from the first quarter along with
Gabi Vidmar going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The Titans led by five, 21-16 after the first quarter.
Both sides scored 18 points a piece in the second quarter as the Titans led 39-34 heading into halftime.
The Titans outscored the Bulldogs 18-to-15 in the third quarter. The Titans extended their lead to 10 points (50-40) after a jumper by
Kathryn Neff with 5:13 left in the period. Â The Bulldogs got to within six points before
Gabi Vidmar made a jumper to put the Titans ahead by eight heading into the final period .
During the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs made it a 4 point at 66-62 with 1:54 left in the game. Â However,
Allysan Tse came up with the dagger with her first bucket of the game with a 3-pointer with 51 seconds left in the game to put the Titans up 71-64.
The Titans were able to nail their free throws down the stretch with Hassmann making all six of her free throws in the final 25 seconds of the game.
The Titans will now take a 10-day break for finals before their next game against California Baptist University on Saturday, December 16th. Â Tip-off is set for 1 PM at the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center in Riverside.
